It could be your training crew, your best friend or even your mom. But if you want to reach your goals, you got to put enablers in their place. Enablers are people that allow you to continue your losing ways. They feed you with what you want to hear, mother you, provide excuses and bail you out.
Fitness enablers are everywhere, they think they know best, allow you to continue making mistake after mistake, encourage you to try new diets, fitness classes and regimes, they tell you it's working for them and pray on your lack of confidence as they stand there in perfectly fitting Lycra - they should be telling you to shift your arse more, sweat more, eat less crap and stop kidding yourself & that BBQ's and 10 cans of cider every weekend are going to make you feel shit, slow you down, take several days to burn off and can contain two days worth of calories - they never have the guts to tell you where you really stand - Fact - they don't know what they are talking about!!
Corporate enablers are most apparent in the mainstream. These are companies that promise a physique change with a five-minute workout gadget, or a pill that will change your life, most people see this as a farce, most of us roll our eyes at the TV adverts. We know it's not about this rubber innertube wrapped around our big toe, again these companies are praying on those who struggle knowing pizza is bad for you cause it has fresh tomatoes right?
Unfortunately, the enabler exists in Martial Arts world too. Unqualified teachers with no experience just a hatred of being told they were crap and with the ideology that they can do things better. They are conning people out of hard earned cash, duping people into thinking they are the best and disrespecting there origins. These "McDojo's" only exist because they are not challenged, students are too scared to question the "top dog" and continue to be taught incorrectly. Critics & keyboard warriors are fuelling the fire by bitching and moaning about the "McDojo" instead of confronting them and getting there club closed down.
This happens all too frequently nowadays. A strong kicker "runs" a group and invites loads of young pups that follow his program dribbling in awe of his kicks, they don't follow the correct traditions, have no lineage, no identity, they become great kickers but can't punch, elbow, knee, fight or have any grasp of what the art actually involves. The cycle continues and the pups are too busy being cheerleaders and "yes men" instead of real training partners.
Enablers are everywhere they even exist as parents who never let the kids get hurt or fail. Welcome to the Participation Generation, now all grown-up and crying about how hard the world is. Sad. Go get a rake and a shovel and learn to do some hard work.
The only way you'll achieve your goals is by working bloody hard, there is no cheat sheet, no shortcut, it'll need willpower and perseverance! They say that the truth hurts, I say that not telling the truth hurts, years of listening to BS has made my skin particularly thick and my patients for idiot ideologies and new concepts has worn thin... I urge you to do the same - next time someone offers somthing that seems to good to be true - punch them*, if they continue preaching then maybe they are onto somthing..
*dont really punch them you'll get your legs slapped!
